PowerSchool
The purpose of the PowerSchool Portal is to inform you of your progress. Now that you are a high school student, it is important that you take responsibility for your grades and attendance in all classes. If you see an error in attendance, you need to report it to the teacher you believe has made a mistake and discuss it. Sometimes a teacher marks you absent, and when you report later to class, he or she may not remember to change the A to a T. It is up to you to make sure this is corrected. You will receive an automatic F for any course where you miss more than six classes, so please keep your eye on this. If you have a discrepancy that cannot be resolved with a teacher, please see your dean as early in the term as possible.
Regarding grades, here are some important things to keep in mind.
-
Students should advocate for themselves and seek out teachers for extra help or to find out about missing assignments.
-
Teachers can have over 100 students to grade and often will not be able to correct and post grades immediately after an assignment or assessment, so please give them a reasonable amount of time to get grades added to PowerSchool before you expect to see them posted.
-
Grades can often change as time goes forward.
-
Grades can sometimes change quickly, for example, when a large test or project gets graded.
-
Grades for any given term are final once the term officially closes. Term dates are posted on the school calendar.
I hope the Student Portal will be a valuable tool to keep track of your progress and that you find it helpful.
